Istrian Municipalities partners of LIFE SEC ADAPT signed the new Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy!

On Tuesday, the 5th of July 2016, the Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy was signed in the Istrian development Agency (IDA) Ltd. Croatian signatories, the municipalities of Buzet, Labin, Pazin, Poreč, Pula and Rovinj pledged to reduce CO2 emissions by at least 40% by 2030 and to adopt an integrated approach to tackling mitigation and adaptation to climate change.

Heralded as the “world’s biggest urban climate and energy initiative” by Commissioner Miguel Arias Cañete, the Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy brings together thousands of local and regional authorities voluntarily committed to implementing EU climate and energy objectives on their territory.

The Mayors, who signed this Covenant, share a vision for a sustainable future - whatever the size of our municipality or its location on the world map. This common vision drives their action to tackle interconnected challenges: climate change mitigation, adaptation and sustainable energy. The Mayors stand ready to deliver concrete, long term measures that provide an environmentally, socially and economically stable environment for present and future generations. It is their collective responsibility to build more sustainable, attractive, liveable, resilient and energy efficient territories.
